The Emery FFA Chapter awarded 96 Greenhand Degrees and 26 Chapter Degrees Monday evening. This is a record-breaking number of Greenhands for Justin Thornley, FFA advisor at Emery High.

Degree applicants must meet minimum qualifications and satisfactorily complete their Supervised Agriculture Experiences. The recipients were encouraged to remain active in the FFA program and advance to receive their state and national degrees.

Over 20 members were handed certificates and silver pins for the FFA Chapter Degree. Some of the requirements include receiving the Greenhand degree, two years of agriculture education, raising $150 in SAE, completing 180 hours of work on SAE, participating in group discussions and demonstrating five procedures in parliamentary procedure. The advice given to these students by Mr. Thornley was, “ Whatever you put into it, you will get out of it.”

Junior officers were also installed on Monday. Jessica Fox was named FFA Assistant Secretary and Shaylee Grange as Assistant Reporter by Chapter President Riata Christiansen. All chapter officers participated in the opening and closing ceremonies.
