A Brush with Kindness Gives Back to Local Veteran

After learning that a Price man could not leave his home due to having no rail on his front porch, Habitat for Humanity of Castle Country took action through its A Brush With Kindness program. This program provides elderly, veteran and low-income residents of Carbon and Emery counties assistance in exterior home repairs.

Despite rain, the railing was installed to the man’s porch on Wednesday thanks to HFHCC summer intern Emilee Wilson’s efforts. Wilson will return Saturday, Sept. 23 to finish the project as well as guide volunteers in yard cleanup at the Korean War veteran’s home in Price. Community volunteers are welcome to join in the cleanup effort beginning at 9 a.m. For further details on this project, please contact the Habitat office at (435) 637-9701.

This particular ABWK project will allow the 85 year-old veteran to safely enter and exit his home and feel pride in home ownership. This is a perfect example of how ABWK can help those in need of assistance.

To learn more and to apply for the program, call or visit the HFHCC office at 375 S Carbon Ave. Room 148. Typical projects that can be done through the program include exterior painting, sliding repairs, window replacements and much more.
