Utah waterways are much richer now following the official kickoff to Cabela’s Fish For Millions contest.

May 4 marked the kickoff date to the contest which will run through July 7. Fish in various bodies of water throughout the state have been tagged by the retail store. Anyone who is lucky enough to pull a tagged fish from an eligible lake or pond will win a prize. The grand prize is $1,000,000 and by downloading the store’s app, the winner can double this prize to $2,000,000.

Other prizes include large sums of money ranging from $100,000 to $10,000, bass boats, a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, shopping sprees, fishing gear, gift certificates and more.

There are 13 participating Utah fisheries including Joe’s Valley Reservoir, Carbon County Pond, Gigliotti Pond and Lake Powell. According to the Utah Department of Wildlife Resources, the Carbon County Pond was stocked on April 29 and the fish are biting. Similar reports from the other waterways also exist.

Anglers who participate in the Fish For Millions contest must create an account at cabelasfishformillions.com. This website lists all Utah fisheries that are stocked with prize winning fish. A complete list of rules and prizes is also located on this site.

Free fishing day across the state will take place June 4. On this date, anglers will not be required to have a current fishing license. With nearby ponds stocked full of fish and possible prizes, the event is bound to be a success.
