Saturday was opening day for the Carbon Cal Ripken 2017 season. To start the celebration, baseball teams from Rookies to Majors led a parade beginning at the Dino Mine Park all the way to the Toy Atwood ball complex.

Players then gathered at the East field for the first pitch.  “A big part of baseball is tradition, tradition is icons and an icon today is going to throw out our first pitch.” stated Shane Henrie Cal Ripkin Board Member.

The icon Henrie was referring to was Scott Grundy. Henrie explained that Grundy has been a part of the baseball community for more thirty years and has raised and coached many talented players.

Bret Butler is this each years league president, who is in charge of making sure the players can play the game they love.

Each team was then recognized by their sponsors who support the team and the league throughout the season.  This years  season will end on June 3rd.
