Local high school students opened the Carbon School Board meeting that took place on Wednesday evening with a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem.

Following that presentation, the board dove right into the agenda. One special item was the information given on the CSD Transportation Department mechanics receiving a Department of Public Safety and Utah Highway Patrol (UHP) Gold Award for bus maintenance.

Bruce Bean spoke on this, joined with mechanics Jeremy Anderson and Travis Rasmussen. It was stated that, to receive the award, members of UHP inspect each of the buses that are on the fleet and if there is less than one percent of the fleet that is presented with issues, the Gold Award is given.

Six highway patrolmen conducted the inspection. The board questioned how they compared with the rest of the districts in the state. However, that information was not readily available.

Also presented during the meeting was the foreign exchange students for the year. There were six students present at the meeting with three that were unable to attend. This year’s students have traveled from Italy, Brazil, Spain, Columbia and more.

These students are Elisa Cervelli (Italy), Mahdi Almubarak (Bahrain), Maria (Duda) Lopes (Brazil), Giulia Klein (Germany), Padmini Gomez Soars (Spain), Amina Lucarelli (Italy) and Manuela Velasquez (Columbia), Lucas Becker De Souza (Brazil) and Riccardo Milano (Italy).

Those students that were in attendance were gifted with a free movie pass.
