Carbon Swim Brings Home Second Place from Uintah

Carbon brought home impressive times after traveling to Vernal on Wednesday. The Dinos were up against Uintah and Union high schools at the meet, where 25 best times were recorded for the Dinos.

Carbon boys started the meet off strong in the 200 medley relay. Tyson Swasey, Austin Engar, Rylan Chamberlain and Jerron Stead teamed up for the event, earning a second place win with a time of 2:04.71.

Carbon’s Kacee Barrett brought in another second place finish for the Dinos in the girls’ 200 IM, swimming a 2:45.11. Senior Taycie Davis also swam the event and earned a time of 3:16.23.

Chamberlain came back in the boys’ 50 free with a time of 25.09 and second place in the event. Carbon’s Megan Swasey also took second place in the 50 free for the girls, earning a time of 27.36.

Barrett returned to the girls’ 100 butterfly along with senior Abby Layton, bringing home a fourth and fifth place finish for Carbon.

Sofia Crompton came out strong in the girls’ 100 free, inching out first place with a 1:07.26. Senior Tyson Swasey came in second for the boys in the 100 free with a time of 55.60.

The relays were up next starting with the girls in the 200 yard free relay. Carbon’s Shannon Baker, Sofia Crompton, Kacee Barrett and Megan Swasey swam an impressive 1:52.94 for second place. Ashlin Baker, Jadelyn Flores, LoriAnne McCourt and Hannah Torgerson also teamed up for the event and received a time of 2:37.73.

Carbons boys also swam hard in the same event. Tyson Swasey, Dallen Tweddell, Jerron Stead and Rylan Chamberlain came stole first place from Union with a time of 1:47.00. Tyler Vasquez, Brock Morris, Austin Engar and Gavin Black were teamed up to bring in a fourth place finish for the Dinos.

Matthew Torres represented the Dinos in the boys’ 100 backstroke and swam a 1:26.61. Ashlin Baker, LoriAnne McCourt and Jadelyn Flores followed in hot pursuit in the girls’ 100 breaststroke.

The 400 free relay proved good times for the Dinos as the last event of the meet. Emily Jespersen, Shannon Baker, Kacee Barrett and Megan Swasey swam an impressive time of 4:19.42, earning a first place win for the Dinos. Carbon’s boys performed well in the event with Matthew Torres, Dallen Tweddell, Gavin Black and Paxton Wilson coming together for a time of 4:52.33.

Despite missing 11 girls and six boys at the meet, the Dinos still managed to pull away with a second place finish overall. The girls took second place, earning 44 points for their team, while the boys came in third place, bringing home 34 points.

The Dinos will meet at home this Saturday to take on Grand, Delta and Gunnison. This will be the last meet before the Dinos compete in the region swim meet Thursday, Jan. 25, again at home.
