Carbon Volleyball Falls Short to Tough Uintah Squad

On Thursday, the Carbon High School volleyball team lost their second match of the week to a tough Uintah squad in a non-region matchup, 19-25, 25-22, 22-25, 20-25. Leading the Dinos in kills were junior Jordan Scoggins with 10 followed by Beth Child, who contributed eight to the match.

The Dinos fought in the first set, trading points with Uintah, until the Utes pulled away and gained a six point lead. Carbon was unable to come back, dropping the first set 19-25.

Carbon took control of the second set by capitalizing on two Uintah hitting errors followed by two Dino kills to take a 19-11 lead. A kill from Scoggins ended the second set with a 25-22 win for the Dinos.

In the final set of the match, the Lady Dinos took control quick, with back-to-back kills from Scoggins and middle blocker Celeste Smith. Carbon led the set 4-1. The Utes didn’t let down and came back taking the match with a 25-20 set victory.

Leading the Dinos in digs were senior Katee Martinez with 25 followed by teammate Lauren Rice with 11. Rice also led the squad in assists with 27 on the night.

The Dinos look to rebound this coming Tuesday night as Carbon travels to Manti. Opening serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. Carbon will return to their home court on Sept. 30 for their first home region match against Juab.
