Price City Fire Chief Paul Bedont hung up his gear for the final time on Monday as he bid farewell to the department after 15 years of service. Friends, family and members of the community gathered to thank Bedont for his dedication throughout the years and wish him well during an open house on Monday afternoon.

Bedont was hired as the fire chief in 2005 following stints with Utah Power and Light, the Division of Wildlife Resources and the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office. He is a husband, father and grandfather, and he and his family plan to remain in the local area.

Fitzgerald Petersen will relocate to the area to fill Bedont’s shoes beginning Oct. 1. “Petersen, who has family ties to the area, brings over 20 years of experience to Price City and will be leaving a post with Unified Fire District in the Salt Lake City area to return to Price and serve our citizens,” Price City shared in an official statement regarding the hire.

Swearing in of Chief Petersen is planned to take place during the regular Price City Council meeting on Oct. 9.
