Tourism throughout Carbon County is growing under the direction of Shalee Johansen with the Carbon County Office of Tourism. Johansen has made it a goal to meet with every city throughout Carbon County in order to discuss ways to improve or expand tourism.

On Thursday, Johansen met with Helper City government officials, business owners and concerned citizens to talk about various issues regarding tourism. In the meeting, Johansen explained different aspects pertaining to the office of tourism.

One of the main topics discussed was signage along Highway 6. Many expressed the need for billboards to get people off the highway and traveling through Helper City to see what it has to offer. Johansen agreed to looking into more signage for Helper.

Johansen presented the idea of a new map of Helper City at the meeting. This map would include illustrations of various landmarks throughout Helper, such as Big John and Balance Rock Eatery. She stated that this kind of map would help direct people with recognizable places to navigate the town easily. Everyone in attendance seemed to like the idea.

Johansen announced the new maps would be for every city, as well as a county-wide map.
