“Perfect weather, great entertainment, delicious desert” were the comments circulating through the crowd at the annual cowboy poetry gathering on Thursday evening. The venue for the event was Castle Valley Outdoors north of Emery and featured the Out The Back Door band from Price and Mike Sewell, a poet from Wyoming.

Starting the evening, Emery County Historical Society President Lori Ann Larsen presented the “Preserving the Past” Annual Award to Edward Geary. Geary, author of the Emery County history book and other books, has done much to preserve the history of Emery County and surrounding areas. A former Professor at BYU, Geary is the chairman of the Emery Historical Preservation Committee, a member of Emery County Public Lands Board and several other committees within the county.

The audience was favored with many entertaining songs from the band and interchanged with several poems from Sewell and a couple from local poet Lee Jeffs. The culmination of the evening was the much anticipated Dutch oven cobbler and ice cream.
