The E. Clampus Vitus, Matt Warner Chapter 1900, located on Main Street in Helper, has been playing a large part in local children enjoying a memorable Christmas morning through Sub for Santa since 1985. Gradually, as time has passed, the impact through the organization has grown. Last year, over $10,000 was raised and at least 100 local children were aided.

The children benefited through Sub for Santa are vetted through the United Way of Eastern Utah and then put into the hands of the E. Clampus Vitus. This decision was made due to families being helped by numerous organizations in the past. This vetting system makes for a fairer Christmas for all.

Much of the success each year is due to events and fundraising opportunities presented throughout the community. A community yard sale, Christmas craft fair, one man show of Scrooge, bingo night and more all benefit the local children through Sub for Santa. Another great opportunity for fundraising is through raffles.

The Boxcar Gallery on Helper’s Main Street, owned by David Richey Johnsen and Thomas Elmo Williams, has donated a painting for the past few years. This year, an original oil painting by Johnsen is up for grabs and is valued at over $12,000. The painting is currently located at the Helper Hub, also on Main Street, and will remain there until the raffle that will take place on the final night of the annual Light Parade.

Those that wish to view the painting and possibly become the owner may view it at the Helper Hub at any time. If you wish to enter the raffle, you will be given a card. One half will contain your personal information and the other half stays with you. If your card is chosen, after verification, you will be deemed the rightful owner.

John Magnuson of the E. Clampus Vitus wished to extend his gratitude to Johnsen and the Boxcar Gallery as well as Cindy Lund at the Helper Hub. Raffle tickets will be sold at October and November’s First Friday events as well. Tickets are $25 each or 5 for $100 and are sold at the Helper Hub, Clamper Hall and by Clamper members.
