Both the Carbon Dinos and Emery Spartans were tripped up on the road this past Friday with just a single game remaining on both their schedules before the playoffs begin to kick off fall break.

The Spartans travelled to Union to take on the second place Cougars. After taking the 14-3 lead early in the second quarter, the Cougars ripped off 49 unanswered points to take the commanding 52-14 win.

Quarterback Kyson Stilson went 22-34 in the loss, racking up 201 yards through the air with a touchdown and an interception. Colton Willson caught 12 balls for 132 yards on the night to lead Emery. He also rushed for a touchdown. Jared Snow caught the only TD pass of the night, ending with two catches for 21 yards.

Emery will end the season at Grantsville on Friday night.

The Dinos also took an early lead against the league-leading Morgan Trojans on a long pass play from quarterback Noah Jones to Chance LeCheminant in the first quarter.

Unfortunately, the seven points would be all that the Dinos would score in the game, losing the region tilt 39-7.

Jones threw for 109 yards on 10 completions, the longest of which went to LeCheminant for 57 yards for Carbon’s lone score of the game. LeCheminant finished with 67 yards receiving on two catches.

Carbon will travel to Judge Memorial Friday to finish the regular season.

Both teams will await final results from Friday’s games to see when and where both will take part in the first round of the 3A Playoffs on Thursday, Oct. 19.
