Local rivals Carbon and Emery hit the mat on Friday in Price.

The Spartans connected first when Byron Christiansen (106), Dwain Farley (120), Drake Mangum (126) and JW Oveson (132) won the opening matches. Magnum did so by major decision while the others pinned their opponents. Bobby Blake (138) put the Dinos on the board when he won by a pin. Bryar Meccariello (145) then won by a pin for Emery.

There was a nail-biter in the 152 weight class when Conner Fausett (CHS) and McKay Meccariello (EHS), who have both had good seasons thus far, faced off. Fausett emerged victorious in a 3-2 decision. Emery immediately answered back when Gus Dalton (160) won by a pin. Jake Barlow (CHS) and Hayes Dalton (EHS) also proved evenly matched as they wrestled at 170. Carbon again won a close decision with a 11-10 score.

Scion Gibson (182) wrapped up the last match between the Dinos and Spartans of the night with a win when he pinned his opponent. Kove Johansen (195) faced a Tintic High wrestler due to Carbon not having a wrestler in that weight class and won by virtue of a pin. Emery forfeited the 285 match but dominated the duel over rival Carbon, winning 52-18.

“They wrestled great,” commented Emery head coach Kirk Christiansen after the match. “Big shout out to the JV. They dominated also.”

Carbon hosts another duel on Thursday against Delta to begin the new year and the match will be streamed online here. Both Emery and Carbon will then head to Richfield on Friday to compete in the 3A State Duels this coming weekend.
