Dinos and Spartans Take Part in Annual Red Rock Invitational

The Carbon Dinos and Emery Spartans finished in second and third place, respectively, on Saturday in Moab at the Red Rock Invitational track meet.

Carbon finished with 247.5 points and Emery was right behind with 188. Carbon boys and girls both finished in second place. Green River finished in eighth place.

Carbon’s Shannon Baker earned a whopping 30 points for her team all by herself, taking the top spot in each of the 100, 400 and long jump events. She was also part of the 4×100 team that took first place.

Equally impressive as well for Emery was sophomore sprinter Braiden Ivie. The speedster took first place in the both the sprint events, the 100 and 200 meters. He finished more than a half second ahead of the nearest sprinter in the 100 and over a second ahead in the 200.

Carbon’s Carson Frame won the long jump with a leap of 19-10.00. Jodi Noyes also took home top honors in the shot put, showing 30-05.00. The girls’ 4×100 team consisting of Mikelle Monson, Megan Swasey, Madelyn Christensen and Shannon Baker, took home top honors.

Emery’s Ty Funk raced to a first place finish in the 800 meters in 2:11.12, over three seconds ahead of second place. Drake Hoffman also took first place over fellow Spartan Marquies Giroux, throwing the discus to the tune of 115-06.

James Bryer, fifth in 3200 meters. Tyson Swasey, fourth in 110-meter hurdles, third in 300-meter hurdles. Mikelle Monson, fourth in 100 meters, third in long jump, second in high jump. Carter Fausett, fifth in 100 meters, third in long jump. Fourth place, Boys’ 4×100 meters. Madelyn Christensen, fifth in 300-meter hurdles. Antonio Mecham, fifth in 300-meter hurdles. Noah Jones, third in 800 meters, fifth in high jump. Girls’ sprint medley, fourth. Boys’ sprint medley, third. Derek Hillam, fourth in 200 meters, fourth in shot put, second in long jump. Girls’ 4×400, second. Boys’ 4×400, second. Jodi Noyes, second in discus. Harley Migliori, fifth in long jump, second in shot put. Jarett Atwood, fourth in javelin, fourth in discus. Emma Christensen, third in high jump. Marianna Molinar, third in javelin.

Griffin Livingston, fifth in 1600 meters, fifth in 800 meters. Paige Stansfield, fourth in 300-meter hurdles. Alexis Dalton, fourth in discus. Samantha Morgan, fifth in discus, second in javelin. Drake Hoffman, second in shot put. Marquies Giroux, fifth in shot put, second in discus. Megan Jensen, fifth in javelin.

Green River athletes earning points:

Miranda Johnson, seventh in javelin, seventh in shot put.

Both Carbon and Emery teams will take part in a dual meet at Carbon high on Friday afternoon.
