Despite going winless in the regular season, including a 21-18 defeat Friday night against Judge Memorial, the Carbon Dinos still have a shot at the 3A Championship.

With Summit Academy beating Juan Diego on Friday night, and a subsequent lost coin flip to both Juab and Summit Academy (all three finished the regular season with identical 4-1 3A South records), the previously 3A South undefeated Soaring Eagle slipped to third place, slipping into a Wednesday matchup with the Dinos in Salt Lake City. The game will be played at Juan Diego at 4 p.m.

Against Judge, Nate Olson returned to the starting lineup for Carbon, rushing for 170 yards on 27 carries, including an 11-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. The Dinos were down at half, 13-12.

The Bulldogs took the 21-12 lead in the third quarter before Collin Lewis scored a TD of his own from eight yards out to get the Dinos within three, 21-18. Quarterback Noah Jones was unable to find a receiver in the end zone with under a minute to go in the game, ending Carbon’s regular season.

Lewis ran for 54 yards on 12 carries. Jones went 5-18 for 40 yards.

Wednesday’s 3A play-in game at Juan Diego will begin at 4 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on ETV Channel 10, beginning at 3:45. The game will also be streamed live at: www.etv10news.com/livesports/etv-10-live-stream/
