The Carbon Dinos traveled to a tournament in Grand Junction, Colo. seeking their first win of the season over the weekend.

The boys’ basketball team opened play against Glenwood Springs and again, a slow start put the Dinos behind the eight ball. Carbon entered the second quarter with a nine-point deficit, 17-6, when things got rolling.

The Dinos scored 17 points in the second quarter and went into halftime down 29-23. A +3 third quarter for the Dinos cut their deficit in half going into the fourth. Carbon kept up with Glenwood Springs in the final quarter but were unable to gain ground as they fell 50-47.

Carbon had better luck on Saturday going up against the tournament host, Grand Junction. This time around, Carbon won the first quarter and that momentum carried them through the game.

The Dinos ended up winning every quarter ,which is sure strategy for winning games. The Dinos won a defensive battle 42-33 and picked up their first win of the season.

Carbon (1-3) heads to Vernal on Tuesday to play Uintah (0-2) before they return home to host their local rivals, Emery (2-1), on Friday, Dec 7. The game will be streamed live on ETV Channel 10 beginning at 7 p.m.
