Dinos Snag Third at State Championship

The Carbon Dinos completed their 2017 golf season during the State Championship hosted at Cove View golf course in Richfield on Wednesday and Thursday. The Dinos ended the remarkable golf year with a third place finish. This marks the highest finish at the State Championship for Carbon.

“We had a chance,” head coach Tom King said. “Unfortunately, Grand and Morgan played very well today. I am so proud of this team.”

Even though they didn’t achieve their top goal of winning a State Championship there were many accomplishments for this years team. The Dinos were undefeated in region play for the second year in a row plus they added another Region 14 Championship for the third consecutive year.

In Region 14, there were four Carbon golfers who finished in the top ten, Ryker Smith (medalist), Ryan Gagon (second), Brady Gagon (third) and Carson Martines (sixth). At the State Championship, Ryan Gagon tied for second place and Ryker Smith took fourth place.

The UHSAA ralso ecognized three Carbon seniors for their classroom achievements for averaging a 3.970 GPA during the golf season. Those All State Academic golfers are Zade Carrillo, Ryan Gagon, and Ryker Smith.
