Pending confirmation from the Utah Senate Judicial Confirmation Committee, Don M. Torgerson will be appointed as a judge in the 7th District Court. This was announced at the end of May by Governor Gary Herbert, who stated that Torgerson’s dedication will prove him to be an excellent addition to the bench.

It was also announced that the Senate Judicial Confirmation Committee plans to host a public hearing as well as issue a recommendation to the Senate. Torgerson’s pending appointment will fill the vacancy that was recently left by retiring Judge Lyle Anderson.

Torgerson’s professional history includes working as a public defender for Carbon, San Juan, Grand and Emery counties as well as Moab and Blanding through his privately-contracted public defender law firm, Torgerson Law Offices. Torgerson has also worked as a partner at Chiara & Torgerson.

Public voices may be heard regarding the pending appointment. Jerry Howe at the Office of Legislative Research and General Counsel is accepting written comments, which can be mailed to Suite W210, PO Box 145210, Salt Lake City 84114. These comments must be received no later than 5 p.m. on June 13 and should include a mailing address, name and phone number.
