Most anglers have been jigging just off the bottom, while a few have fished elsewhere in the water column. Ice anglers have been widely distributed across the reservoir. No specific location has been noted for producing the most fish. Anglers have been using a variety of ice flies, jigs, tube jigs and spoons tipped with bait. Popular baits have included chub and minnow meat, worms, mealworms and wax worms. Some anglers have been using attractors (such as Kastmasters) about 18 inches above the end tackle. Good jig colors have been chartreuse and white. Waterproof boots are highly recommended. The wind usually picks up in the afternoon. Ice shelters are recommended. The first day of the Trifishalon took place at Scofield on Dec. 29. The winner was Greg Young of West Valley City. His rainbow trout measured 16.75 inches. On the day of the tournament, there were several layers of ice, slush and even open water.
