PRICE, Utah – The Utah State Eastern softball team split its final four-game series of the regular season against Snow on Friday and Saturday in Ephraim.
They opened game one of the series with a dominating 12-2 victory with McKell Marble pitching for the Eagles. Marble pitched all five innings while allowing seven hits and two runs.
Cassidy Howe and Cheyenne Pratt led the Eagles at the plate with three RBI’s each. Five other batters had a hit and a RBI in game one for Utah State Eastern.
Mateah Tuckett had three hits in the game including a double and a triple. She also had two runs with one RBI as the designated hitter.
The Eagles followed up the win with a 5-3 loss to Snow in game two on Friday.
Going into the bottom of the fourth inning, the Eagles held a 3-1 lead over Snow until back to back errors with two outs allowed Snow to score three runs to take the lead.
Snow added another run in the next inning and kept the Eagles scoreless throughout the rest of the game.
The next day the Eagles started the day with a 10-7 win over Snow in game three.
In the top of the fourth inning, Sierrah Anderson hit a two-run home run to push the Eagles’ lead to 7-3.
Madi Blauer gave the Eagles a huge boost offensively from the plate with four hits, two RBIs and two runs. She hit a double in the top of the fifth inning that scored two runs to give the Eagles a commanding 9-3 lead.
Snow made a comeback attempt in the later innings of the game by scoring four runs in the final two innings.
Howe had another game with multiple RBI’s for Utah State Eastern. She finished game three with three hits, three RBI’s and one run.
During the final game of the series, the Eagles fell 12-9 to Snow in seven innings.
The Eagles had a 5-2 lead going into the bottom of the third inning thanks to a two-run home run from Howe in the top of that inning.
Snow was able to take a 12-5 lead after scoring 10 runs in the third and fourth inning.
The Eagles did trail most of the game and did not give up until the last out of the game was called. They scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning to try and get the game to go to extra innings but came up short.
In their first year as a program, the Eagles finished the regular season with a record of 5-35 heading into the conference tournament.
The Eagles will play the College of Southern Nevada in the opening round of the Region XVIII tournament Wednesday in Taylorsville.
First pitch against CSN is scheduled for noon at the SLCC softball field.
