On Monday afternoon, members of the East Carbon Police Department were dispatched to a domestic violence situation that quickly became more.

Dustin Wood, 37-year-old, was the subject called on. When police arrived on scene, he retreated back into the house. While the officers initially followed Wood, he announced that he had a gun and would shoot anybody that came any further into the house. Following, the officers retreated and the Carbon County SWAT Team was contacted to respond.

Communication tactics were attempted with Wood. A phone was sent into the house and the team and officers waited for responses from Wood, which were not received. From there, it was decided to use gas on the subject. The team deployed their canisters and within a few minutes, Wood gave up and came out of the house.

According to East Carbon Police Chief Sam Leonard, the standoff lasted about two and a half to three hours. The area was blocked during the standoff and one house that was nearby was evacuated. Wood was arrested and booked in the Carbon County Jail on charges of aggravated assault and terroristic threats.
