The rivalry showdown between Carbon and Emery took place on Friday as the arena in Price was filled with spirited-spectators representing both schools as they brought energy throughout the entire game.

Emery was able to convert some open looks in the first quarter, especially from three-point land, while Carbon struggled to find shots throughout the game. The Spartans gained a substantial lead, 24-10, after the first quarter. The Dinos were only able to garner 18 points in the first half to the Spartan’s 33. Emery broke open the game in the third quarter, outscoring Carbon 22-8. This game was not close as Carbon struggled on offense while Emery got on a roll and capitalized on their offensive opportunities.

For the Spartans, Kyson Stilson had a game-high 22 points and seven rebounds. Kyler Wilstead also had seven rebounds to go along with 13 points. Rance Jensen had another solid game with 11 points. Brax Jensen was one assist and point away from a double-double while Jordan Ekker recorded 10 points off the bench. Emery shot 54% from the field, including 44% from three-point land.

Derek Hillam and Collin Lewis led the Dinos with eight points apiece with the former coming down with six rebounds. Carbon shot 41% on the night and 20% from beyond the arc. Their shooting woes bled into the free throw line, where they went 3-9.

Other than the shooting disparity, turnovers and fouls from each side were fairly even, although Emery dominated the boards with 40 to Carbon’s 21.

With the win, Emery improves to 4-1 on the year and will head to American Fork on Wednesday to take on American Heritage before returning home to face Grantsville on Friday to close out the week. The latter game will be streamed live online here and on ETV Channel 10 at 7 p.m.

Carbon (1-5) will be on the road this week with their first stop on Wednesday at Juab and then on Friday against Providence Hall.
