After taking state in the all girls show (non-tumbling) routine last year, Emery is primed and ready to defend its title. It is bringing back many from the accomplished team that took region while also beating out 4A Canyon View in state.

This year, the Lady Spartans will compete in all girls show (non-tumbling), timeout cheer, timeout dance and freestyle. “We’ve never competed in freestyle before; we are excited,” said head coach Shawnee Snow. Led by captains Paige Hurdsman and Madison Richards, Emery has been practicing hard since the summer. “We have a good group of girls that want to work hard and want to win.”

Snow then moved on to talk about the team’s goals. “We want to go back and win. We want to defend our title.”

Although the accolades are fun for the girls and coaches, Snow hopes the program has a deeper impact. “It’s more than cheer to me. I want the girls to like themselves and look back and remember cheer as a fun time in their lives. I want it to be a positive experience.” The Lady Spartans will look to continue making memories as they train, compete and attempt to defend their title.
