Emery County Commissioners met Tuesday at the old Castle Dale Courthouse and reviewed various proposals including Crandall Canyon Memorial maintenance and a right-of-way from SITLA for a multi-use-trail.

Commissioners were concerned about splitting logs at the Crandall Canyon Memorial site and put aside $250 for repairs. Castle Dale Christian Men Fellowship volunteered its time for the project.

SITLA (School and Institutional Trust Lands Administration) approached the commission and requested a right-of-way for a multi-use OHV trail that would connect Castle Dale and Helper. The trail would begin near the pageant site in Castle Dale and would end in Carbon County. Commissioners felt this would be a great benefit to the county.

Commissioner Laurie Pitchforth discussed the visit of Governor Gary Herbert to Ferron Elementary last week to honor Liberty Kids.

“It was really nice to see the kids pledging and that the governor said how much he appreciates the county,” she said.

Other notes from the meeting:

  • ProposalВ approvedВ for construction of a new parking lot at the trailhead of Engineer and Horse Canyons.
  • Proposal approved for a contract with Lowell Morris, P.A.C. for medical services at the Emery County Jail.
  • McCall Spears, Miss Emery County, presented her platform for the upcoming Miss Utah Pageant.
