Press Release

The Emery County Democratic Party will host its annual convention in Castle Dale on Saturday, April 6 at 4 p.m. The convention will be streamed online for residents of Green River at the John Wesley Powell River History Museum and for residents of Emery County that are interested in the Democratic platform.

The old adage is that all politics are local. Nothing rings more true when it comes to county political parties. On April 6 at 4 p.m., the Emery County Democratic Party will convene to elect county delegates to the state convention and to hear from candidates for state party officers. The party is hopeful that locals who are interested in shaping the future of the party in Emery County will come to offer their perspective, become a state delegate, or even run for a county officer position.

“National politics and local politics are worlds apart,” said Tim Glenn, chair of the Emery County party. “I can’t tell you how many people who know me have said something to the effect of ‘I still don’t believe you’re a Democrat.”

The party central committee expects that residents of the county who are interested in having a voice in local politics will find a path at the county convention. “I can tell you first hand that if you want to influence the direction of a political party, the first place to start is at the county level,” said Glenn.

Seventeen delegates will be elected on Saturday who will have an opportunity to represent rural Utah at the state convention. The county party will also elect a new chair, vice-chair, secretary and treasurer. The central committee has extended an open invitation to anyone who may be interested in these positions to attend the convention and run. Registration will begin at 3:30 p.m. for county delegates.

In addition to officer elections, a representative from the Emery County Public Lands Council has been invited to speak on the topic of public lands, and the party expects a member of the state party Disability Caucus to address the convention. Light refreshments will be served.
