Emery Drama Wins Big at Region

Recently, the Emery High Drama Club traveled to compete at the region competition were the team had a full compliment of performances. The team left Emery High to travel to Manti High School on Friday.

The day began with Emery performing their contest play of “ZAP” by Paul Fleischman. After the other three contest plays performed, Emery sent four musical theater scenes to compete against the other schools. Later in the day, the team competed in the individual events (IE) in the Classical, Contemporary, Dramatic and Humorous Monologues, and Pantomime.

Emery High High’s contest play, “ZAP,” placed first overall. With this, there were participants who were awarded individual acting awards such as Julie Doria for best actress, Derek Anderson for best actor and Travis Fehlberg for best supporting actor.

In Musical Theater, Caroline Gardner took third place. In the Individual Events in each category, Emery was awarded with 10 region titles. In Classical, Derek Anderson, Helena Celis and Laure-Anne Bya took second, and Noah Thomas, Nate Smith and Abram Hadfield took first place. In Dramatic Monologues, Fehlberg finished in fourth, Gardner took third, Liz Neilson ended in second and Doria took home a first place finish. In Humorous, Paytn Jeffs earned third, Garret Stilson finished in second and Shem Guymon took home the win in first. In Pantomimes, Lynda Taylor and Samantha Morgan placed third.
