Emery Grabs Sixth Overall at Temple View Qualifier

The Emery High boys’ track team grabbed a fourth-overall finish during Friday’s meet at Manti High School. While the girls’ team tied for eighth with Gunnison, both teams combined for an overall sixth-place win, more than 50 points ahead of seventh-place San Juan.

Emery didn’t waste time, opening the boys’ 100 meters strong with a second-place finish thanks to Braiden Ivie and a fourth-place win courtesy of Logan Cox. The two both scored again in the 200 meters, with Ivie taking third and Cox fourth. Cox continued to rack up Spartan points with his second-place finish in the 400 meters.

Ty Funk represented the Black and gold in the 800 meters, managing a sixth-place finish while Tayden Nielson and Brooke Jensen grabbed points for the girls with a fourth and eighth in the 800. Chase Christiansen grabbed sixth in the 1600 meters and eighth in the 3200.

Erin Hurst finished in fourth in the girls’ 3200 meters while Daryl Guymon and Mason Faimalo managed a third and fifth, respectively, in the 110 meter hurdles. Guymon returned in the 300 meters for a sixth-place finish. Chase Jewkes grabbed sixth in the boys’ javelin finals while Guymon grabbed seventh to add more points to the boys’ final.

Makieya Bertuzzi grabbed eighth in the girls’ javelin while Ty Mecham put up a second-place finish in the boys’ shot put finals. Emalee Bott and Elexis Dalton managed fourth and fifth-place finishes in the girls’ shot put finals to continue the girls’ scoring action.

Spartan Chase Jewkes added three points for the Spartans due to a sixth in the boys’ discus finals while Emery’s McKenzie Cox managed eighth in the girls’ discus. Emery girls grabbed a sixth in the 4×100 as well as a fourth in the 4×400 to put up even more points. Emery grabbed seventh in the boys’ sprint medley relay to finish off the scoring.
