After losing their previous two games against South Sevier last week, the Emery Spartans rallied for a doubleheader sweep against South Summit Saturday in Castle Dale.

Cade Brazier took the complete game win on the mound, allowing one earned run on four hits. He struck out six batters in the 4-3 win.

Kyson Stilson, Easton Gordon, Jesse Barnett and Colton Willson had a hit in the game, with three of the four hits going for extra bases. Barnett led the team with two RBIs. Gordon’s and Barnett’s hits were both triples.

Emery jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead after one inning of play. The Spartans scored single runs in the third and fifth innings to round out the scoring. South Summit cut it to one, 4-3, in the top of the seventh before Brazier shut the door for good.

Emery shot out to another quick lead in game two, tallying all nine runs in the first three innings to take the commanding 9-2 win.

Gordon continued his hot streak at the plate, going 4-4 with an RBI, two doubles and a triple, finishing a home run shy of the cycle. Gordon leads the Spartans with 15 hits on the year to go along with a blistering .484 batting average.

Stilson knocked in two more runners, going 1-3 in the game with a single.

Leading 3-0, Emery scored six runs in the bottom of the third to blow the game wide open. South Summit scored two runs in the sixth, but was unable to complete the comeback.

Emery (8-4, 1-3 Region 15) will travel to Blanding on Tuesday for a region matchup with the Broncos. Emery will then make the short trip to Helper on Wednesday for a non-region tilt versus the Carbon Dinos. The Carbon/Emery game will be broadcast live on ETV Channel 10 at 3 p.m.
