The Carbon County Fairgrounds played host to a rodeo organized by Utah State University’s team on Friday and Saturday. Nearly 300 individuals from 11 different schools competed in the event.

After a 20-year siesta from corrals and bulls, the university’s team was revitalized last year for the 2016 season. The revamp of the team has continued into the 2017 school year as the team has traveled to two rodeos earlier this season, one at Southern Utah University and another at Idaho State University.

USU Eastern students Morgan Jensen and Casey Thomas made the championship round during the weekend rodeo. Jensen placed second in barrel racing while Thomas placed eighth in team roping. Currently, Jensen is sitting second in the region after three rodeos.

Currently, the rodeo team is growing as they have three girls and three boys on the team. Team members include Morgan Jensen, Tailon Crane, Brittney Murdoch, Casey Thomas, Tyler Olsen and Daniel Cummings.

The rodeo team would like to thank USU Eastern and Vice-Chancellor Greg Dart for their support and also the volunteers and sponsors that helped organize and host the rodeo over the weekend.

The team will travel to Logan this weekend for USU’s rodeo. The following weekend, the Eagles will travel to Spanish Fork for Utah Valley University’s rodeo. This will conclude the fall season before actions resumes in the spring, starting in March.
