Four Carbon Teams Take Championship Titles at Weekend Tournament *Photo Gallery*

Four Carbon teams took home championship titles at the 2018 Father’s Day Weekend Tournament in Richfield on Friday and Saturday. Carbon’s 10U Blue, 11U, 12U Blue and a 14-year-old team all were victorious in the single-elimination tournament.

The tournament began on Friday as each team competed in two pool games. Carbon was well represented with one 8U team, two 9U teams, two 10U teams, one 11U team, two 12U teams and a lone 14-year-old team.

Following the pool play, teams geared up on Saturday for the single-elimination tournament play. Four Carbon teams made it through the entire tournament to take home championship titles.

The 10U Blue team notched 59 runs in four games over the weekend, including a 20-7 tilt against Uintah in the championship game. Canyon Grant took to the mound for the first four innings before welcoming Maddux Hart to finish out the game. Gunnar Bennett had four hits in the championship game. Hart, Adrian Vasquez and Cash Withers added three hits apiece.

“The boys hit really well all weekend,” said coach John Vasquez said.

The 10U team is coached by Vasquez, Tosh Grant, Casey Ware and Troy Bennett.

The 11U team also had a good showing at the tournament. Coached by Frankie Tapia, Nate Wilson and Cip Madrigal, the team grabbed 40 runs while only giving up nine throughout the tournament.

“We started a bit slow on Friday but we found a way to win both games,” Madrigal said. “Saturday, they showed up ready to play ball.”

The team met undefeated Richfield Rampage in the championship game and handed the team its first loss, 12-2, to take the championship.

Carbon’s 12U Blue also brought home a championship title. Coached by Pat Smuin, Zac Jones, Frank Saccomano and Shane Henrie, the team defeated the Snow Canyon Rough Riders 11-0 to secure the championship.There were only seven runs against the Carbon team throughout the tournament.

This is the second straight year that Carbon’s 12U Blue team took the championship title at the tournament.

A 14-year-old team also took part in the tournament. The team rounded out the titles for Carbon, bring home the championship.
