Goals are Set High for Spartan Wrestlers

While Emery High has a smaller and younger wrestling team than many schools, head coach Kirk Christiansen is feeling positive about the group of Spartans he has to work with this year.

“I am super excited for this season,” he stated. “I’ve never been around a group that works so hard. I make them work hard at every practice and they always give me all they’ve got.” The coach also emphasized that the wrestlers are fast learners and that the returning players placed on the podium at last year’s state tournament. Therefore, the team has set high goals that Christiansen has no doubt they can achieve.

“Our goal for this year is to place a boy on the podium in each weight class,” said the coach. “We are really strong in the 106-152 weight classes, but we have a gap in 160-182. I feel like if we plan it right, we can get a boy in every weight class. I believe we will fill a full team roster for the first time in years.”

Emery High will host their first home meet on Dec. 9 against Summit Academy. Christiansen encourages the community to come support the team as they work towards the podium at state.
