Emery County Commissioners revealed Tuesday that the Green River golf course and State Park were being targeted for closure because of a lack of funding.

Commissioners don’t want to see the venues closed, so they spent some time promoting the organization Friends of State Parks.

The organization focuses on restoring funding and making sure State Parks get the attention they need.

Emery County employee Mike McCandless was appointed to the State Parks Board of Directors at the meeting. McCandless heads economic development for Emery County and could be a huge proponent of keeping the venues open and running.

  • A citizen was concerned that a few people were unable to get into the Museum of the San Rafael during the middle of the day because it was locked. Commissioner J.R. Nelson said he would try to find out why the museum was closed during operating hours.
