Thomas Elmo Williams recently announced his resignation as a Helper City Councilman, citing personal reasons.

In his time as a councilman, Williams oversaw city buildings, the Western Mining and Railroad Museum, and dark skies. He has served the city for many years through his political and civic duties.

“I want you all to know that this decision could not have been made if I didn’t have full faith and confidence in our mayor and council,” Williams said. “I will always be a very strong advocate for our city, our council and our current mayor. As for gratitude, I could never express how humbled and grateful I felt when the voters put me on the council as a write in candidate.

Williams’ resignation leaves a mid-term vacancy on the council. The city is now seeking to fill that position beginning in May.

“Helper City is looking to fill a midterm vacancy for a council member position,” the city shared in a public notice. “This term would be May 4, 2018 to January 2020.”

To qualify, candidates must be a United States citizen, a registered voter of the municipality and a resident of the municipality for 12 consecutive months immediately preceding the date of appointment.

Candidates will be considered on May 3, 2018 Helper City Council meeting at 6 p.m. Candidates may register at Helper City Hall, 58 South Main, with the city recorder by April 24, 2018 at 5 p.m.
