At the Helper City Council Meeting on Thursday, the Arts Festival was discussed by members of the committee developing the agenda and the festival in general.

The committee is looking for the tents that were used last year to provide shelter to some of the booths at the festival. They are also trying to figure out where and how food will be distributed. The council suggested they use the baseball concession stands.

The committee realized earlier this week that they hadn’t found anyone to provide security to ensure that nothing will get out of hand. So, they’re hoping to find that before next week.

“Just keep us updated. There are no more meetings between now and then. We thank you very much for the time you have given for the festival,” said Mayor Armstrong.

August 16th is the pool party. The pool will be open to everyone between 6 and 8 pm. However, the pool needed a new consent form signed. No changes were made to it.

A couple of citizens talked about applying for a grant for city beautification, and wanted to get the approval of the city council. They were also hoping to get the city on board to help them get the grant.

The Mayor advised the citizens to meet with the council at city hall in order to really discuss the requirements and stipulations for the grant. They will be meeting at the citizens convenience.

The council stated that the citizens needed to find not only volunteers but businesses that could provide services and donations such as flowers, trucks and paints if needed.

Mayor Armstrong thanked the citizens for taking a proactive approach to improving the city.

“The problem is, said Armstrong, “that people don’t realize that Main Street affects the integrity of the whole city, and there are a lot of run down properties and buildings that need to be taken care of. So, we appreciate your enthusiasm.”
