Helper Mayor Resigns in Wake of Another DUI Arrest

Helper City Council called an emergency meeting Saturday morning, after learning of the DUI arrest of Helper Mayor, Dean Armstrong, on Friday.

Armstrong was present at the meeting and tendered his resignation in the following letter to the council:

Members of the City Council and Residents of Helper City: I am resigning as Mayor of Helper City effective immediately. In light of recent events, I have determined that I can no longer adequately perform the duties of Mayor. Instead, I will turn my focus towa taking care of my family, my health, and my business. Although I am saddened by my inability to complete my term, I do feel that we have moved Helper City forward over the last several years. The people of this community are strong, and it has been my honor and privilege to have served you.

Helper City has issued the following press release on the matter: The Helper City Council held a special emergency meeting on 02/23/2013 to discuss the recent arrest of Mayor Dean Armstrong. Mayor Armstrong was present at the meeting and tendered his resignation effective immediately. The City Council accepted the resignation. The council also expressed appreciation to Mayor Armstrong for his service and best wishes to his family.

Armstrong has two prior DUI convictions. He was pulled over Friday in Helper by UHP after rolling through a stop sign.
