Lady Dinos Finish on Top for Second Straight, Emery Spartans Grab Third

The Carbon Lady Dinos finished first for the second time of the season at the Matt Burr Invitational hosted at North Sevier on Saturday. The girls’ track team, along with the Carbon boys’ sixth-place finish, managed to boost Carbon to a third overall.

Emery responded strongly in the contest as well with the boys’ team taking third and combing with 19th-place girls’ team for a fifth-place finish overall, just a point ahead of third-place Beaver.

The Pinnacle girls’ team competed as well, taking twenty-eighth overall.

Carbon started out its scoring with a third-place finish in the girls’ sprint medley relay. Senior Sarah Ohlwiler continued her stellar work, taking first in the 100 meter hurdles. Dinos Kyle Quinton and Derek Hillam placed in the long jump competition, taking fourth and seventh, respectively.

Caitlyn Dimick and Jodi Noyes grabbed more points for Carbon by placing fourth and seventh in the discus while Cache Barrett and Quinton returned in the 100 meters for seventh and eighth place finishes. Sadie Crompton finished nearly four seconds ahead of North Sevier’s Ashlin Goble for a first in the 1600 meters.

Ohlwiler and Mikelle Monson placed first and fifth in the long jump finals and were joined by fellow Lady Dino Riley Marshall as well. Carbon’s team in the girls’ 4×100 grabbed first just .02 seconds ahead of Delta while the boys’ team managed to score first in the same contest.

Senior Lindsey Blanc grabbed second in the 400 meters while Derek Hillam finished second in the 400 meters for Carbon as well. Megan Swasey grabbed third in the 300 meter hurdles while Crompton came back in the 200 meters for third. Ohlwiler finished third in the 200 meters while teammate Emma Haddock grabbed sixth for Carbon in the 3200 meters. Paul Bryner grabbed seventh for the Dinos in the 3200 meters.

The Lady Dinos finished third in the 4×400 while the boys’ team managed first in the same contest. Monson returned in the high jump to score a fourth for the Blue and White.

Daryl Guymon put up points for the Black and Gold in the 110 meter hurdles after coming in fifth while Ty Mecham grabbed a fourth in the shot put. Braiden Ivie also grabbed third in the 100 meter finals for Emery. Chase Jewkes grabbed a third in the boys’ javelin while Chase Christiansen grabbed fourth in the 1600 meters.

Logan Cox and Ivie continued to score in the 400 meters, placing third and seventh for Emery. Tiana Jensen grabbed eighth in the 300 meter hurdles. Guymon returned in the 300-meter hurdles for a second-place finish with Ty Funk managing second in the 800 meters.

Hailey Allred finished sixth for Emery in the 200 meters while Ivie and Cox grabbed third and fifth, respectively, for Emery in the 200 meters. Christiansen came back for third in the 3200 meters while the boys’ team grabbed seventh in the 4×400 meters. Jason Smith finished in seventh for Emery in the high jump finals.

Pinnacle put up points thanks to an eighth in the girls’ sprint medley relay as well as a seventh-place finish from Alexandrea Sherman in the 300 meter hurdles.
