Over the weekend, the Carbon High Lady Dinos traveled to play in the Fruita Winter Classic Tournament. They played Grand Junction Central on Thursday, Grand Junction on Friday and Fruita Monument on Saturday.

On Thursday, the Lady Dinos found themselves down at halftime, 19-15. Carbon used a comeback in the third quarter to take the lead and continued strong in the fourth to get the win, 39-31. Cora Lamborn led the team with 13 points for the Dinos.

Carbon held a three-point lead at halftime over Grand Junction on Friday, but were unable to keep it as they were handed their first lost of the season in a close game, 32-30. Jordan Bianco scored a team-high 12 points.

Saturday featured another close game for the Lady Dinos against an undefeated Fruita team. Down by one at halftime, Carbon tried to knock off the tournament hosts but were unable as they fell, 36-33. Jodi Noyes led Carbon with 13 points.

The tournament will no doubt pay dividends for the Lady Dinos, who were able to play in some close games with lower scoring efforts compared to their opening games. Carbon has shown the ability to spread the points around. This has been evident in both tournaments they have played so far as a different player has led the team in scoring. The Lady Dinos will need to keep a focus on ball security as turnovers were a problem during the tournament. They had 21, 14 and 18 turnovers in the respective games.

Carbon will be back home this week to face Juab on Tuesday and Providence Hall on Thursday. The latter game will be streamed online here and on ETV Channel 10 at 7 p.m.
