The Green River Lady Pirates rebounded from back-to-back losses with a home win against Whitehorse on Saturday as the team cruised to a 47-25 win.

The Lady Pirates’ defense came out strong in the first, allowing Whitehorse only four points in the first quarter to take a seven-point lead into the second. Shooting struggles for Green River evened the playing field as Whitehorse narrowed the hosting team’s lead to one point at the break, 17-16.

Green River scored a game high 19 points in the third to pull away from Whitehorse, going into the final quarter ahead 36-20. The Lady Pirates held onto the lead as they outscored the visiting team 11-5 to take the Region 19 win.

Maribel Escalante led the Pirates with 16 points, including three buckets from behind the arc. The senior has drained 54 three-pointers this year. Teammate Daniela Mendez also scored in double figures, chipping in 15 points.

Green River (6-12, 4-5 Region 19) will look to cap off region play with a win at Monticello (11-7, 5-3 Region 19) on Thursday.
