The Green River Lady Pirates began their volleyball season against Altamont on Wednesday. Despite a loss in the game, head coach Kristi Brady is positive about what the team learned in the matchup.

The Pirates dropped the first match 25-7 and the second 25-6. The third go around was a closer contest, ending at 25-23.

“They came alive and really picked up the intensity in that last game, which was really good,” Brady explained. “They didn’t get discouraged in the first two games. The picked themselves back up and tried harder.”

Savannah Williams notched seven digs in the game and Maribel Escalante served up three aces.

“It was good for me to see where we were at and what we need to work on,” Brady said.

The team will continue its practice for the regular season at a tournament in Duchesne this weekend. The team will then host 2A Grand on Tuesday. The game can be viewed live on ETV Channel 6 at 6:15 p.m.
