Lady Spartans Take Region 15 Crown, Set Sights on State Title *Photo Gallery and Video Highlights*

The Emery Lady Spartans finished the regular season Thursday night with a 76-24 thrashing of Grand, taking the Region 15 Championship while also notching their 17th consecutive victory. Two seniors were honored before the game as well.

Erin Hurst and Taijah Price were the lone seniors on this year’s team, and both were inserted into the starting lineup for their last home game of their high school careers.

Leading 19-4 at the end of one quarter on a buzzer-beating three by Lainee Jensen, Emery exploded in the second to lead by 35, 43-8, at the half.

The Lady Spartans took a 40-point lead after a bucket by Bailey Huggard at the 5:15 mark of the third to make it 50-10. Adri Childs made it a 50-point game, 74-24, on a bucket at the 2:07 mark of the fourth, leading to the monster win.

Four players scored in double figures for the Lady Spartans, led by Jensen and Kinlee Toomer with 13 points apiece. Megan Jensen chipped in 11 points and Kacelyn Toomer finished with 10. In all, 12 Emery players scored at least two points in the game.

Emery finished the regular season with a perfect 10-0 mark in Region 15 play and an overall record of 19-1. In Region 15 action, the Lady Spartans averaged 69.1 points per game while giving up just 31.4. Their closest game came last week at North Sevier, a game Emery won 60-50.

Emery (19-1, 10-0 Region 15, #2 in 2A) will take on Waterford (6-12, 4-6 Region 14) in the first round of the 2A playoffs on Feb. 17 at 6:30 p.m. at Orem High School. The game will be broadcast live on ETV Channel 10.
