The Payson Lions opened up their passing game in the second half to rally past the Carbon Dinos 23-14 on Friday in Payson.

Carbon scored 14 points in the second quarter behind the strength of Daulton Nelson’s four-yard touchdown run and Jamison Oviatt’s interception return for a touchdown.

Payson came out gunning in the second half, and Carbon’s defense couldn’t find an answer.

Carbon head coach Jeff Blanc called the game “a tale of two halves” and said his team would work on finishing in the second half.

Although the Dinos were still mathematically eligible, the loss effectively ended any playoff hopes.

Carbon will host Juab on Friday at 7 p.m. The game will be Carbon’s homecoming.
