It seems rare when the Helper American Legion baseball team has to go more than five innings to win a game. Last night was no exception with a five-inning, 10-0 win over Herriman.

Cole Fossat pitched a great game giving up just two hits and no runs. He worked himself out of a fourth-inning jam with two on and one out by striking out two to end the inning.

Brandon Oliver came in a pitched a perfect fifth to give Helper its tenth league win and pull even with Cyprus at the top of the Salt Lake Valley League standings.

Bryce Blackburn continued his hot hitting with three singles. Tyler Procarione also chipped in three singles. Ridge Nielson had two singles. Dakota Cisneros and Jaren McCourt each had doubles.

Helper will travel to Granite High school to play Olympus on Wednesday.

On Saturday, the Salt Lake Valley All-Stars will take on North All-Stars at 7 p.m. at Spring Mobile Ballpark in Salt Lake City. It’s the first time an all-star game will be played to promote American Legion Baseball in the state of Utah.

Coaches from both leagues voted on players for the game and Helper had four players voted onto the team. Bryce Blackburn, Dakota Cisneros, Tyler Procarione and Derek Young are the players representing Helper.

“This is a nice honor for our players and a great opportunity for them to play on a big league park,” said Helper Head Coach Jeff Cisneros. “The cost is free and we would like to get as many people to attend and support the game as we can.”

The Salt Lake Valley All-Star game will be held July 20 at the ballpark in Helper. More information on the game will come at a later date.
