For the past seven years, United Way of Eastern Utah has hosted the Soles2Souls event. This year’s event recently took place at the Geary Theatre to raise funds for the local program.

Dancers from Dance Technica, Encore Dance Studio, Showtime Dance Company and the Miss Carbon County organization all took to the stage and performed for members in the community.

Cheryl Thayn, United Way of Eastern Utah Director, was delighted with the turnout at the event. “There were 40 performances that day and they were all just wonderful,” she said. “We were able to raise $750 that will go directly towards purchasing shoes for children in the school district.”

Thayn also wanted to let teachers know they can contact her at (435) 637-8911 for students in need of shoes.

To support the victims in the recent school shooting in Parkland, Fla., Miss Carbon County’s Outstanding Teen first attendant Kaylie Basso made and distributed orange ribbons. The ribbons were made by Basso to show support for the Orange Ribbons for Jaime organization. Fourteen-year-old Jamie Guttenberg was a dancer and was one of the 17 killed in the recent shooting.
