Chief Kevin Drolc took time during the regularly scheduled Price City Council meeting on Wednesday evening to present a Chief of Police Commendation to local resident Jennifer Marakis.

The award was presented to Marakis due to her quick thinking and courageous work in assisting to thwart a telephone scam against an 85 year old woman. On September 15, Marakis was working for a local cab company and responded to pick up said elderly woman.

The woman then directed Marakis to her bank where she withdrew a sizable amount of money. She withdrew the money in order to assist her grandson, whom she believed to be in trouble. Marakis was suspicious of the situation and contacted a police officer.

The officer instantly recognized the situation as a common scam and made contact with the elderly woman to inform her. Contact was made with the criminal to verify the scam and it was also confirmed that the grandson was not in any sort of trouble.

“Miss Marakis saw something, she took action and she said something about it,” Chief Drolc stated. “The Price City Police Department is appreciative.”

Marakis was then given a standing ovation by the council members and crowd. Chief Drolc concluded by presenting Marakis with a plaque to commemorate the occasion.
