Local Runners Compete in State Cross Country Meet, Emery Boys Take Second

The 2018 state cross country meet took place on Wednesday with a big showing from the Emery High boys team. The team took second place overall with four runners finishing in the top 20.

The top three runners from Emery with their overall place and time were: 4) Bryar Meccariello (So) 16:33.3, 14) McKay Meccariello (Sr) 17:06.7, and 15) Chase Christiansen (Sr) 17:08.5. Jess Christiansen (Fr), Beau Cook (So), Byron Christiansen (Fr) and Zach Wolford (So) also participated in the race.

Carbon’s boys’ team finished seventh. 25) Ryan Page (Jr) 17:33.0, 27) James Bryner (Jr) 17:35.9 and 31) Chad Page 17:42.3 rounded out CHS’ top three runners with Ammon Wilson (Sr), Shane Scaugard (Jr), Jared Spendlove (Jr), and Kade Allen (Jr) also taking part of the competition.

The Carbon and Emery ladies struggled a bit at the meet. They finished ninth and 10th, respectively. Carbon girls that ran were 17) Emma Haddock (Sr) 21:12.4, 25) Regan Hansen (Sr) 21:29.5, 34) Grace Broadbear (Jr) 22:17.6, Gracie Tatton (Fr), Megan Swasey (Sr) and Isabeau Miller (So). The young Lady Spartans participants were 29) Adaley Lester (Fr) 22:05.1, 59) Carlie Bennett (So) 23:59.0, 63) Bethany Justice (So) 24:16.5, Elli Whitesel (Fr), Daicee Ungerman (Fr), Tylee Norton (Fr) and Baylee Jacobson (Fr).

In the 1A State race, there was one runner from Pinnacle in both the boys and girls. Landen Hardy (So) placed 17th and ran it in 19:17.9 while Kemery Stuckenschneider (Fr) finished 40th with a time of 26:27.2 in their respective contests.
