On Saturday morning, Miss Carbon County’s Outstanding Teen Second Attendant MaKinzey Cross was making the journey to Helper City to assist her fellow royalty at the Breakfast with Santa event. However, before Cross was able to reach her destination, black ice intervened as she was making a turn.

As a result, Cross slid across two lanes of traffic and rolled her car. From there, a fence stopped the momentum before Cross reached a 500 foot drop into a river that was only a mere 20 feet away. After arriving on scene, first responders used the jaws of life to safely extract Cross from the vehicle.

Due to Cross practicing safe driving and wearing her seat belt, she was able to walk away from the accident with sprained ribs, a sprained ankle, a bruised head and other smaller injuries. Upon receiving the news of their royalty sister’s accident, the other royalty members flocked to the hospital with flowers for Cross.

Cross’ mother, Brandi, stated that they are blessed to be a part of the royalty family and expressed her gratitude toward those that wished well for the family. Brandi also thanked the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office, EMTs and fire department for their diligent work.

“I am also very thankful; she definitely had a guardian angel,” Brandi stated.
