The Spartans traveled to Delta on Wednesday night to play the Rabbits. It was back and forth until Emery ended the first quarter on a 14-2 run to double up Delta 20-10. Again, the teams traded points to make it 34-25 for Emery at half.

The Rabbits clawed back into the game in the third and made it 45-41 after closing the quarter on a 5-0 run. There was a lot of offense in the final period, which saw several ties and lead changes. In the end, Emery was unable to keep pace with Delta as the Rabbits erased the 10-point deficit to take the contest 67-63.

The leading scorer in the state, Derek Smith, dropped 38 on the night as the Rabbits shot 45 percent from the floor. Emery converted on 38 percent of its field goals and was led by Brax Jensen with 30 points.

The Spartans out-rebounded the Rabbits 33-22 behind Kyler Wilstead’s nine rebounds and Justin Rasmussen and Jensen’s eight apiece. Team turnovers were nearly even but Delta was able to slide past Emery because it capitalized on its shooting opportunities.

Up next, the Spartans (2-1) will face Maeser Prep (1-2) on Monday night in the Spartan Center. That game will be broadcast live online at etvnews.com and ETV Channel 10.
