Robbie Mitchell traveled to San Bernardino, Calif. over the weekend to compete at Glen Helen Raceway as part of the WORCS Series.

The Price native raced in 108 degree weather, which changed the competition entirely.

“It completely changed my race tactic to go out and race hard, to go out and survive,” Mitchell explained. “I wasn’t in a very good position to gain points either.”

The racer explained that even if he won the race, he would still be stuck in fourth place in the WORCS Series. Instead, he focused on finishing the race safely. “The guy in front of me would have to get two DNFs (did not finished) in order for me to catch him. I knew that wasn’t likely so I just went the safe route.”

Mitchell finished the race in third place, earning a podium finish. While he is still in fourth for the series, he hopes to gain points in the last race of the season. He will travel to Primm, Nev. on Oct. 19 for the last leg of the competition.
