Pinnacle traveled to Provo to take on the Freedom Prep Eagles on Monday.

The Panthers were able to gain an early lead on the Eagles, 14-10, to end the first quarter. Pinnacle used the second quarter to spring board them into a comfortable lead outscoring Freedom Prep 18-8. The third quarter was tight but the Panthers were able to add to their lead and go into the final quarter up 44-29. The Eagles would not go away in the fourth but the Panthers were able to seal the game and put one in the win column with a 55-48 victory.

Junior Anthony Madrigal led the way with 18 points. Fellow junior Benjamin Scott finished with a double-double, recording 13 points and 11 rebounds as well as four steals to lead the team. Senior Jaxson Carlisle was one point away from his own double-double as he led the team with 13 rebounds.

The Panthers were able to secure their first win of the year despite 46 turnovers in the game. Head coach Eric Hansen is looking for more from his team. “They were able to pull through, but our intensity level was low and our focus was not very good,” he said.

Hansen believes their best basketball has yet to come, “We are young and still learning so I’m very optimistic.”

Pinnacle resumes their road trip on Wednesday against St. Joseph before a home game on Friday against Dugway. The latter game can be viewed online at https://etvnews.com/livesports/pinnacle-high-school/.
