Green River had a couple of games on the diamond this past week. On Wednesday, the Pirates headed to Bicknell to take on an undefeated Wayne team.

The Badgers kicked off the contest with eight runs in the first inning. Going into the fifth, Wayne was leading 11-0 when the Pirates finally broke through with three scores of their own. The Badgers got two back though to apply the mercy rule and take the 13-3 win.

Weston Hatfield-Knight led the Pirates offensively, going 2-3 with a triple and two RBIs. Green River gave up 15 hits in the matchup.

It was rivalry day on Friday as the Pinnacle Panthers headed to Green River for a rematch against the Pirates. It was Green River that got off to the hot start in this one, going up 4-1 after one inning of play.

Pinnacle pulled within two in the third before Green River closed the door with a six-run response. The Pirates went on to beat the Panthers 13-3 and sweep Pinnacle 2-0 in the season series.

Hatfield-Knight again had a big game. He led off for the Pirates and went 3-4 with three RBIs and a run scored. Gavin Anderson also produced well for Green River, going 3-3 with two doubles and two RBIs. Sam Corrigan also had three hits in four at bats. Preston Marshall came in for the Pirates and pitched three scoreless innings to grab the save and seal the game.

For the Panthers, Mikey Vigil led the team offensively, going 2-3 with an RBI.

This week, Green River (5-9, 3-5 South Region) will travel to Diamond Ranch Academy (11-4, 6-2 South Region) on Wednesday and then host Valley (12-4, 6-3 South Region) on Friday.
